What Are Digital Products?
Digital products are communities, courses, templates, and anything intangible or non-physical that can be digitally delivered to customers.
Digital products are often considered the holy grail for online business owners.
This is because while physical products require consistent work and overhead costs to deliver, many of the best digital products, which we’ll discuss below, front-load the work and production costs.
This means that once the digital content or product is prepared, your focus and costs are largely directed towards marketing it to your target audience.
Note: This of course, isn’t true for EVERY digital product.
For instance most SaaS products still requires considerable overhead costs to ‘keep the lights’ on: with sales, marketing, developers, customer service, etc. but you get the idea!
And if your customers purchase your digital resources via SEO or ‘old’ YouTube videos or social media, it can turn into a passive income stream!
How Can You Sell Them?
Setting up and selling your products can be done through an online marketplace like Etsy, Gumroad, Podia, etc., or through your own website.
I want to highlight Easy Digital Downloads as it lets you bypass online marketplace fees.
It’s a WordPress eCommerce plugin that you can quickly set up and use to create digital products, manage, and get paid directly from your WordPress site.
- Full shopping cart system
- Integrates with popular payment gateways
- Easily create discount codes
- Monitor how your files are being downloaded by customers
Thanks to its vast extensions, integrations with tools (like LearnDash), and super-easy checkout process, 50,000 customers use it to sell everything from e-books and courses to software and services.
But I specifically want to highlight Easy Digital Downloads and how it can help with your pricing strategy.
- It helps you easily compare your pricing to competitors to stay competitive.
- It also offers A/B testing to assess the effectiveness of multi-tiered variable pricing. This means you can easily create multiple versions of your products with different prices and track performance with in-depth sales data.
- You can also segment customers and offer bundles and add-ons at checkout to boost profits.
- And more 😉
You can even set up subscriptions for recurring revenue streams.

But now that that’s settled let’s discuss some common examples of the best digital products to sell online.
Best General Digital Products To Sell
First, let’s cover some of the most common digital products you can find on the web. These are examples of digital products that you can adapt to nearly any niche you’re interested in.
E-Books: Provide valuable information, guides, or stories in a digital format that can be easily downloaded and read on various devices. (But it’s important to note – since eBooks have little to no barriers to entry – it can be an extremely saturated and competitive market.)
Online Courses: Offer educational content on a huge variety of topics across video lessons, written materials, and interactive quizzes.
Memberships: Create a subscription-based service where users pay for access to exclusive content, community forums, or special features.
Printable Templates and Planners: Design and sell downloadable templates for general life or niche business planners, calendars, and organizational and productivity tools. (We also have a quick guide on how to sell Canva templates from your WordPress site!)
Virtual Workshops and Webinars: Host live or recorded virtual events on various niche topics, allowing participants to learn and interact online in your niche.
Software and Apps: Develop and sell useful software applications or mobile apps that solve specific problems or enhance productivity.
Stock Photos, Videos, Digital Art, and Graphics: Offer high-quality images and videos for creative projects.
And in today’s world, with generative AI like Midjourney, etc., it’s actually possible to sell illustrations, graphics, and digital design templates for your niche to those not interested in creating them themselves.
Consulting and/or Service Offers: For instance, in the case of BlogTyrant, we could set up services such as SEO optimization, social media management, and email marketing. WPBeginner does this with its Pro Services, which include website design, site speed optimization, SEO industry experts for hire, and other helpful offers for the ideal customer.
Now let’s get into various niches and share the sorts of digital products you can decide to sell based on their Google trends and search traffic estimates!

Note that the lifestyle niche is huge – so there’s ton of potential to do all sorts of products here!
Here are just a few ideas to help get your creative juices flowing:
Virtual Coaching Sessions: Offer one-on-one or group coaching on personal development, time management, or mindfulness practices.
Meditation Guides and Audio Tracks: Create guided meditation audio files and e-books on mindfulness techniques.
Digital Journals and Planners: Design and sell digital journals for goal setting, gratitude, and daily planning.

Cool Digital Product Ideas for Fashion Enthusiasts
Style Guides and E-books: Write comprehensive guides on fashion trends, wardrobe essentials, and personal styling tips. Just note that this likely isn’t an evergreen content.
So, this sort of thing may be better suited as articles for your fashion blog’s content marketing needs.
Just note that general ‘style guides’ can relate to fashion as well as ‘editorial style guides,’ such as the annual Economist style guides (which can be great to read and reference every now and then)!
For instance, the general style guide has a KD 81 – so it’s an extremely competitive market – and based on the Google trend, it has been reasonably popular and stable for years!
So, if you hope to rank and profit, you’ll really want to nail down a long-tail niche for your style guide!
Virtual Styling Consultations: Provide personalized styling advice through video calls, helping clients find their best looks.
Printable Fashion Sketches and Templates: Offer downloadable templates for aspiring designers to sketch their ideas.
Mouth Watering Digital Product Ideas For Your Food Blog

Great Education and Learning Digital Product Ideas To Sell

Language Learning Tools: Create e-books, audio lessons, flashcards, and other educational products for learning new languages – you can definitely use AI to help with this.
Virtual Tutoring: Provide online tutoring sessions in subjects like math, science, or literature.
Best Digital Products To Sell on a Travel Site
Travel Guides and E-books: Create detailed travel guides for your specific travel niche blog. So, if you run a blog for digital nomads, you can share curated destinations, complete with itineraries, local insider tips, and must-see attractions.

Best Digital Products to Sell on a Marketing Blog
This is a topic for which I have a lot of ideas, my dear!
Content Marketing Strategy Guides: Write in-depth ebooks or guides on content marketing techniques, including something like SEO for bloggers, keyword research, and content creation.
Social Media Playbook: Create detailed guides on how to use different social media platforms effectively to grow a business, including scheduling calendars, digital templates, and more.
Blogging and SEO Course: Develop a course that teaches the basics of starting and growing a blog with SEO, social media, email, video marketing, or whatever medium you have the expertise, technical skills, and a strong track record in.
But just be aware that this is a very competitive market with big, established names in the industry and popular courses like The Affiliate Lab, The Authority Site System, and Glenn Alsopp’s SEO Blueprint, just to name a few.
Content Calendar Templates: Design and sell downloadable content calendar templates to help bloggers and vloggers plan and organize their posts.
Email Marketing Templates: Provide pre-written email templates for different purposes, such as welcome emails, newsletters, and promotional campaigns. You can also offer e-books on crafting effective email campaigns, list-building strategies, and automation techniques.
Exclusive Membership: Create a membership program that includes access to things like exclusive articles, case studies, whitepapers on marketing strategies, discounts on digital tools, and an active community of like-minded people (such as exclusive Slack or Discord). Basically, what Starter Story does).
Looker Studio Dashboards: Develop and sell Google Looker Studio templates that combine Google Analytics, Google Search Analytics, Google Tag Manager, Ads, and more in easy-to-understand dashboards. This way, your audience can audit and optimize their websites for search engines and better results.
As an example, here’s a great, free Looker template by Niklas Buschner that you can use to track your SEO efforts.
It’s helpful to see what free and popular Looker templates people love – to then determine what could added for that premium price! Check out what the landing page for the Looker templates he sells looks like here!
Best Digital Products For Vloggers and YouTubers to Sell
Vloggers and YouTubers can obviously also sell digital products to their loyal audiences.
Here are a few ideas:
YouTube Course and Playbook: Offer detailed courses on starting a YouTube channel, including SEO for videos, algorithm understanding, and monetization strategies.
This could also include production techniques, including shooting, editing (such as tips for using Adobe Premiere and Final Cut Pro), and post-production tips—like how to repurpose videos for other platforms!
Thumbnail Design Templates: Create eye-catching YouTube thumbnail templates that are easy to customize.
Exclusive Access to Behind-the-Scenes Content: Offer a membership where true, dedicated fans can access exclusive behind-the-scenes videos, personal vlogs, and other exclusive content—like Patreon and alternatives.
There’s no point showing the Google trends stats for this bad boy, though, considering how dependent on the content creator’s interest this is!
Stock Footage: Offer high-quality stock b-roll footage, background music, and sound effects that other content creators can purchase and use in their projects.
You could go even further and design and sell templates for video intros, lower thirds, transitions, and end screens for people to copy and use.
Bonus: Preset Packs: Sell downloadable preset packs for filters, video color grading (e.g., LUTs), and audio editing.
How To Market And Grow Your Digital Sales
Choosing your digital product and creating it is only the beginning. To actually sell it, you need to consider the factors below.
Choose Your Platform
You’ll always want to focus your time on a platform that matches your product and target audience.
In general, I always recommend focusing on your WordPress website (since you own it and are in full control).
But there are times, such as if you’re selling arts and crafts or marketing products, when you may want to use a digital marketplace like Etsy or Gumroad.
Social media platforms can also be a great place to sell digital products or market them.
In deciding your platform, you’ll also want to consider having control over branding and the size of the built-in audience (which could equal more competition)!
But make sure to pay careful consideration to fees.
For example:
- Gumroad charges a 10% flat fee on every sale – and that’s not include the PayPal, Stripe, or credit card processing fee.
- Etsy charges a variety of fees, including an online store set-up fee, a listing fee, a 6.5% fee on your product price, subscription fees, and more.
Easy Digital Downloads (EDD) on the other hand, starts at $99 per year for unlimited products, transactions, support, and a whole lot more – making it absolutely my preferred method.Â
Find Out More Here!Create a Lead Magnet
It’s unlikely you’ll make a sale to a complete stranger, though. So, to boost sales for your digital products, you’ll likely want to develop a free, valuable resource related to your paid product.
It can be like a sample of what you’re selling—a valuable but restricted portion of it.
This will help you capture email addresses and build your mailing list, from which you can start nurturing a relationship with your target audience. Â
Grow and Nurture Your Audience
As you grow your list and online presence, you’ll want to regularly engage with and deliver value to people interested in your niche. This goes for all of your digital marketing efforts.
This will allow you to stay top of mind as you aim to consistently provide value to build trust and authority in your niche.
As you nurture your audience – be sure to prioritize value over sales. This is how you can eventually achieve customer loyalty.
People are much more likely to buy from people they know and trust. The best way to do that is to provide them with real value!
Oh, and another great way to build trust relatively quickly and showcase your expertise and personality is through video (check out our guide on how to start a vlog and make money here).
So, please remember – don’t be too pushy for sales, or you’ll scare most people away.
Promote Your Digital Product
So in your emails or content marketing efforts, be sure to prioritize delivering free value to your audience before occasionally promoting your paid stuff.
This will help you leverage the universally powerful – reciprocity.
Generally, it seems in life that you get what you give!
So keep this in mind when promoting products via your site’s SEO and social media. Lead with value before you go in for the sale.
If you’re interested in investing a bit more money than time, you can experiment with paid advertising on platforms like Facebook, Instagram, or Google Ads.
But before you spend money on ads, pay careful attention to where your target audience spends their time.Â
And let me also share some pointers on one specific marketing strategy that works wonders when selling digital products…
Run Free Live Webinars
Paid webinars can be a great digital product to sell. But you can also leverage free live webinars to grow your leads, promote, and sell your products and services.
The webinar goes hand-in-hand with your email list building, social media efforts, and even ads as obviously they’ll help grow your webinar audience. And while it is great to periodically promote your products on email and social media, webinars and even video generally have proven to bring higher conversion rates.
One company, MakeSocialMediaSell enjoyed a 29% close rate on sales from a single webinar.
This is because a free webinar is like a landing page. By now, people know that at some point in a free webinar there will be a call to action to a paid product or service – often around the three quarter mark. But beforehand is where you can showcase your value and personality in a compact and quick package.
It’s all about just sharing your unique expertise – the same thing your selling with your digital product!
As always, you’re not just there to sell but also provide value. So while you should certainly sell on the call, you can always have a super targeted email marketing campaign set up and ready to convert the audience once it’s over.
And it works – in fact, this is a strategy Amy Porterfield has used to earn over $20 million as a creator.
Partner With Influencers and Affiliates
Another great way to get your digital products in front of the right digital communities is through affiliates. Let me spend a bit more time on these ideas as, if done correctly, they can get you to a full-time income that’s largely passive – relatively quickly.
You can always pay an influencer to promote your product via reviews or sponsored content.
However, what I believe works best is to offer affiliate incentives.
Here, you’ll have others in your niche with bigger audiences promote your products in exchange for a commission (a 30-50% commission is a fair rate). They’ll publish reviews, guides, or listicles that appear at the top of competitive SERPs or YouTube searches and promote your stuff.
To make it even more attractive, you can sweeten the deal by providing them with everything from email templates to site banners they can simply plug and play.
There are 2 great ways to set up your affiliate efforts.
One way is ClickBank. It’s a massive marketplace for connecting digital product owners with affiliates. It also offers lots of promotional tools to help affiliates sell. And automates the tracking payment processing for you.
And for bonus inspiration, here’s a list of the top digital offers Clickbank affiliates are profiting from!
The other is with AffiliateWP.
This is a popular WordPress plugin you can use to create your own affiliate program – including affiliate registration, link tracking, and payout management. It lets you customize your commissions rates and structures and gives you full control over your efforts.
- Set multiple commission levels
- Unlimited creatives
- Monitor real-time clicks and affiliate stats reporting
- Pay your affiliates quickly with 1-click payouts using Stripe or PayPal
- Affiliate growth tools like email marketing and affiliate leaderboards
As you’ve probably guessed by now, I’m a big believer in owning as much as you can, and this is the best way to go about it!
Best Digital Products To Sell In Closing
So there you have it. I’ve listed out a bunch of digital product ideas you can create and sell online.
And when combined with Easy Digital Downloads (and if you go the route of using affiliates and AffiliateWP), you can turn your website into a passive revenue stream machine!
