one landing page
[powerpress]

There’s one landing page that every blogger must build. And you might want to build more than one of them…

I’m talking about a page that every blog should have on it by default.

And once I tell you what that page is, I want to give you a few tricks to get the most out of it and increase your conversions to the point that you really start to notice some big changes.

Click here to listen to the episode on iTunes or you can download it to your computer.

What’s in this episode?

  • One landing page that you should make today and why you need more than one of them.
  • Three elements that increases conversions on most landing pages.
  • Two surprisingly simple communication tools that humans have been using for thousands of years that can really help with sales.
  • Why your stats might be fibbing to you (and how to tell).
  • Why I use AWeber for my landing pages.

Oh, and for those that are interested, here’s that screenshot of the opt-in form I made that is converting at over 100%. 😉

Pls, Ramsay how did you create you https://www.blogtyrant.com/start-a-new-blog/ page I need to implement that on my blog

        1. That’s a custom design I did.

  2. Karen Karila on March 21, 2015

Loved your insights about making things personal by letting people know who you are. Valuable advice that I can use.

    1. Thanks, Karen. Appreciate the feedback.

  3. Great stuff, gonna be listening to this more thoroughly when I have 15 minutes peace and quiet!

Just something I notices, the help bubble that pops up on the player says left and right arrows for 1 sec jumps and up and down for 10 sec jumps – this is wrong, using up and down it seems to jump it 10% (i.e. 1.5 minutes for this 15 minute podcast.

    1. Oh, interesting. I assumed everyone listened to it in iTunes.

I’m going to be changing over to Pat’s player soon. Tried to do it this week but had a few issues.

      Thanks mate.

I placed a photo in my optin form and made the write-up a little more personal. Great advice.

    cheers

Podcast audio works well, running a blog is definitely all about being flexible, trying new ideas and being open to helping people. Great ideas I may have a crack at some audio 🙂

    1. Thanks Michael!

  6. Great to have you podcasting again!!

    1. Appreciate the support. How’s yours going?

This is great, Ramsay. Thanks for making me think about branding more tightly – it totally resonated. Landing pages finally make sense to me after hearing you talk. I’m going to go away and think about faces, story crafting and before/after now… I know that what I’m offering is beneficial to people but I realise I wasn’t getting the message across. It’s true – unless a landing page is ‘sexy’ people won’t sign up. I know that for a fact because I wouldn’t do it myself. 🙂

    1. I haven’t forgotten about the basic set up post. Will work on that as well.

  8. Richard Huckle on March 22, 2015

Both direct download & iTunes podcasts are too soft to listen to.
Have double checked my PC system, sound is perfect on other sites.

    1. Hi Richard.

I’m not sure how that would be. Works fine over here. Are you using headphones or speakers? I’ll look into it.

      Anyone else noticed this?

      1. Check system volume levels and here is a trick I found…check the stereo left right volume levels. I’m had mine suddenly be set to 10 percent each. You might have to dig for that setting.

      2. Sorry Ramsey, I’ve also had a problem with the sound and I’ve got it at it’s highest setting. Okay with headphones 🙂

Love the article, love blog tyrant. Blogs have come and gone but yours is one of the few I’ve kept.

      3. Hi Ramsay,

You made an exceptional post on it. Your discussion design is excellent. Its consist of great deals of pointers and information I require.

I specifically state something, I had satisfying reading this and lots of terrific understandings here. I will certainly share this information with my friends and they will certainly prefer to read this. Really interesting,
I’ll absolutely offer these 5 stars.
Thanks for sharing this fantasti article.

      Hello, Ramsay
This is my first time commenting on your blog.
Great & Informative Podcast! Soon, I’m ll add landing page on my blog.

      Thanks again!

  10. Cathy Mayhue on March 22, 2015

Very delightful and informative podcast Ramsay! You explained the science and rationale behind landing pages so correctly. It had that tutorial kind of approach, detailed and easy. Great job!

    1. Thank you Cathy. Hope it helps your blog.

  11. Hello Ramsay,

Thank you for sharing so much insights on your blog. I had wanted to comment on the other classic posts as those were what got me started in reading your blog but I reckon that the comments section have since been closed.

I love your about me page and this line of yours resonate strongly with me “I honestly believe that helping others is the only way to live my life meaningfully.” I believe in engaging in meaningful 2-way communication with people too and I’m very honoured to have made many blog friends from these interaction. Many popular bloggers do not bother to reply to comments but where’s the fun in blogging if all contents are just one way from the blog author?

There are some tips of yours which I’ve been practising and many more which I have not. My blog is just a personal lifestyle blog full of mish mash of life and I don’t plan to build on it anytime soon. However reading blogs like yours would sometime spark me to toy around with that thought. But well, it is rather difficult considering the contents of my blog. Definitely no niche at all. Just a great way for me to express myself since writing is therapeutic and also to connect with people all over the world.

I will often be coming back to your blog to sneak a peek at some practical tips.

    Jo

    1. Thanks Jo. I really appreciate you taking the time to write that comment. I’m glad you enjoyed the blog.

  12. Great podcast!

Do you have any advice for landing pages visitors are directed to from guest posts? I’m building one at the moment.

I have bought the Thrive Content Builder to create my landing pages. I like it, it’s cheap and easy to use.

    1. I would be more likely to link to a related post as opposed to a landing page when doing guest posts. What’s your end goal?

      1. My end goal is to collect email adresses. My bio below the guest post would just include one link, the one to my landing page.

On the landing page, visitors can opt in to download a free ebook. There would also be a small link from the landing page to my homepage, in case they don’t want to opt in.

  13. How long should the video run – max time, on the landing page?

I’m in the live audio production niche so I’m going to shoot the video in front of a mixing board. Seems that would look better that sitting at my desk. Have people see where I do my production work as part of proof and trust building.

    1. I would say no more than a minute. Some of the explainer videos that you can’t pause or stop, however, run for more and convert extremely well.

  14. This is an awesome article on what context matters in notifications and recommendations.

    1. Thanks.

  15. I like listening to podcasts these days. This episode is great! I also think it’s awesome if you interview people too.

    1. Thanks Gwen. Appreciate the feedback.

  16. Turhan Akyol on March 25, 2015

    Great Post!
Ramsay, I don’t have anyone on my mailing list so I think it is accurate for me to assume I won’t get anywhere trying to get people to come aboard by talking about my mailing list’s size. How did you promote your emailing list when you first started out?

    1. You need a quality free giveaway.

  17. Ben Murray on March 25, 2015

Hey, great job on the podcast.

When taking a big overarching look at the blogging community and general blogs online, there seems to be a lot of focus on traffic generation and user engagement, but not a lot of detail on actually capturing leads right from your blog better.

If you have a great opt-in form, you don’t need to worry about thousands of visitors if you can capture and remarket to them over time correctly.

Thanks for this and going into detail!

    1. Hey Ben. Check out the Unbounce blog. It’s sick for that stuff.

  18. Thanks for this Ramsay!

I’ve got a question, what do you think about having mailing list sign up forms at the end of each post, just before the comment section? In addition to everything else, is it too much?

    1. For me they didn’t convert so well, but if you have a good offering and a clean design it can work well.

  19. Fakharuddin on March 28, 2015

    Hi Ramsay,
Thanks for the awesome and helpful podcast.

    1. Glad you enjoyed it.

[…] is another thing I have been procrastinating on. Then I listened to Ramsey over at Blog Tyrant on this podcast where he talks about using email sign up pages to increase subscribers, to make it a more personal […]

  21. Hrishikesh on April 2, 2015

Thanks for the podcast , Ramsay.
Honestly speaking , I really don’t bother to view podcasts because of terribly slow internet connection , but checking out these ones seems worth the wait for buffering!
I would try to change my approach towards generating the leads , and will certainly keep this in pipeline.

Unfortuantely , I couldn’t comment on your other classy articles because they were closed for comments. But I must say I loved them.

Thanks again for keeping the blogging community alive .
