The one big Twitter tip

I want to finish this post by saying that it is really important to understand that Twitter is all about building a friendship with your users.

I don’t mean relationship, I mean friendship.

A relationship can be good or bad but a friendship is nurturing, helpful and engaged.

Forget about how many followers you have and start building real friendships with the people that you already have. You will find your work more rewarding and, in actual fact, you will make more sales when it comes to it. Why? Because you will have a group of highly loyal friends who are more than happy to spread the word for you.

If you have a great Twitter article or know of a good one please let me know in the comments below. As usual, links are welcome in my comments.

Thanks for all the info BT. You totally over-deliver … regularly!

And framing Twitter connections as building friendships is the key, no doubt. I need to focus on that big time.

    Thanks again!

      Thanks for commenting Garry!

  2. Awesome collection of resources! I’m glad you put that Neil Patel article as #1, that’s the piece I would have shared in my comment if you didn’t.

For me, one of the most powerful things about Twitter is getting your questions answered. When I first started learning how to podcast, I posted a question on Twitter. I was blown away by the responses I got many from pro podcasters with their own blogs.

That’s how I discovered the “Audacity to Podcast,” which is excellent. Basically everything I know about podcasting now is from that site. Saved me from months of trial and error if I had to go it alone.

On the flip side, answering other people’s questions can boost your authority and credibility in your niche.

Neil is an absolutely legend. Love his work.

Thanks for your wonderful comments as always Marcus.

  3. Chadwin@ abovethecrease.com on February 23, 2012

Thanks BT great resource as usual.I agree friendships are key. A friendship is a more relaxed and forgiving relationship.

Followers cum and go as the please.

In my experience you initial approach to someone often sets the tone for the rest of your communication/relationship/friendship.

Its a fact that first impressions are important both on and offline.

again thanks so much for the resource

Really digging this list of resources you shared with us. I have to believe having a list like that is a result of very intentional planning and being aware of what your target audience is going to want to consume; a lesson well-demonstrated, here. Thank you.

On your last post, “The Simplified Guide to Social Media for Small Businesses,” I commented that social media was all about the relationships. And, here, you have made a nice distinction between relationship and friendship. Based on my experiences, I have found there are people seeking one or the other – relationship or friendship. A business relationship, one that involves a tit-for-tat exchange of money, goods or services – is prevalent. But it’s those friendships that make a more lasting impression; they’re somewhat rare and always characterized by a true desire by one, or both parties, to just plain help somebody out.

I like your honing of the friendship application.

  5. the Blog Tyrant on February 23, 2012

Love it Scott. Well said as always.

  6. Great information as usual. Your posts have been arriving in my inbox for a long time but I don’t comment often I intend to change that. Twitter is a great resource. My tech blog is only one month old but all my traffic has come via twitter. I had a successful fashion blog beforehand and my readers are loyal so they followed me over :)friendship is key!

  9. argel tiburcio on February 24, 2012

    Wow!
I am thinking that this is an exhaustive list but of course there are more great references out there (Although I have to say this is a very good job!)

As with anything regarding social media, relationship is first!

    Thanks BT 😀

    1. the Blog Tyrant on February 24, 2012

      Agreed! Thanks for commenting.

  10. Sharon Fiberesima on February 24, 2012

Great list Tyrant, I’ve read some of these but there are several that are new to me. However your last tip is even greater. I get the distinction between friendship and relationship even though I’d think when it comes to relationships on social media, the emphasis should be on positive.

    1. the Blog Tyrant on February 24, 2012

      Thanks Sharon.

  11. Man, you’re killing me! How am supposed to run a blog, work a job, raise a family AND go through all of this amazing material???

Thanks again for everything! Even though I’m nowhere near making money on my blog, I appreciate all the informative posts. They’ve helped me skip the curve a bit for sure.

I’m also appreciative of the fast responses to my FB questions. I’ve never felt like an annoyance, which is why I keep coming back for more, lol.

Anyway, time to get started on this list of articles…I don’t have much of a Twitter presence right now.

    Cheers!

    1. the Blog Tyrant on February 27, 2012

Glad I can be of some service.

  12. Hi BT, thanks for sharing this great list. The content Neil Patel puts out is brilliant, also the articles from Copyblogger and Problogger.

I will get stuck into the rest shortly.

Also thanks for the tip at the end.

    Thanks again,

    Dan Sumner
